No matter when you go to Pula, you're likely to find something interesting to do but July is particularly exciting in Pula. Pula's massive amphitheatre is usually the venue of choice for concerts, plays and festivals mainly because it holds 22,000 people. The Pula Tourist Office has all information about schedules and tickets. So do as the Romans did and head to the amphitheatre for the following events:

July

Pula Summer Festival

During the entire months of July and August the amphitheatre holds a series of concerts, both classical and pop, that attracts the best national and international artists. Named the Histria Festival, I still remember the night that Sting performed. More information.

Pula International Theatre Festival (PUF)

Held at the beginning of July, national theatre groups fill the streets and squares with productions. The emphasis is alternative theatre (in Croatian of course). More information.

Pula Film Festival

In the middle of July, this is one of the most prestigious events in the Croatian film industry. In addition to Croatian films, a bevy of European films compete for the "International Arena" prize. More information.

Biker Days

On the last weekend in July, bikers from around the country gather in Pula for rock concerts, biker competitions and the inevitable striptease. More information.

International Summer Accordion School

At the end of July, accordion players flock to the accordion school for instruction by the best accordion professors. Naturally there are plenty of concerts, usually performed in St. Francis church. More information.

Istra Etno Jazz

The "Ethno Jazz" festival takes place in Pula and other Istrian destinations. Jazz stars like Pat Methaney and John Zorn have performed but there's also flamenco, salsa and other international music. More information.

Monte Paradiso

A whole different musical experience is presented at this festival. It's hardcore with punk, ska, reggae and other "underground" styles. More information.

Seasplash Reggae Festival

All reggae all the time with live bands from around Europe and local DJs makes this a wildly good time. And there's a Beach Party with more reggae plus food, wine and whatever. More information.
