Rabac is one of Istria's largest beach resorts. Located only 5km southeast of Labin, Rabac is on a sheltered cove with a pebble beach. It was once a small fishermen's village but now it swells with hotels, camping grounds and private accommodation that can hold up to 10,000 tourists at a time. (See Rabac on a map).

Off-season there is nearly nothing of interest in Rabac but, as the weather warms, Rabac is a great base to intersperse beach activities with day trips to nearby Labin as well as the rest of the Istrian coast.

Rabac first started attracting tourists in the middle of the 19th century. By the end of the century there were luxurious summerhouses. The first hotel in Rabac, the Quarnero opened for business in the summer of 1889. Still, tourism remained modest even while the rest of the Istrian coast flowered in the early decades of the 20th century. Finally a large hotel, one of a series, was built in 1925.
