Zadar accommodation is heavily concentrated on three and four-star hotels. There are no five-star hotels, at least not until the five-star Punta Skala resort opens nearby in 2010. At the other end of the scale, there's an excellent youth hostel and much private accommodation.

Borik and Diklo

Most Zadar three and four-star hotels and private accommodation are in the suburbs: either in Borik, the peninsula that lies about 4km northwest of the town centre or in Diklo which is a little further. In either case, you are not within easy walking distance of the historic centre of Zadar but you will be near a beach. Part of the Borik peninsula is lightly forested and there is a long, narrow beach that curves around a shallow bay. Diklo also has pebble beaches. There are a few restaurants and shops in either place.

Be aware that buses to Borik run about every 10 to 20 minutes but buses to Diklo only run every 30 minutes. There is precious little accommodation in the Old Town: one four-star hotel, one two-star hotel and a smattering of private accommodation.

Camping

Zadar is only 16km south of Zaton, one of Croatia's best campsites where you get a good deal on private, air-conditioned bungalows.
