Ancona to Split and back to Ancona by ferry

Postby clwilhel » Sat Sep 26, 2009 6:51 pm

I would like to take the 9 hour ferry ride from Ancona to Split and return after a few days in Split. I am prone to seasickness. Does anyone have any experience with this trip? Should I forget the ferry and find other (land) transportation or is the ferry okay for someone who becomes seasick?

Thank you.

Hi clw,
I have more experience with the Ancona-Split ferry than I do with being seasick but I don't think you'll have a problem. The ferry is large and extremely stable so I've never felt anything. Of course everyone is different but I've never noticed anyone having a problem on one of the Ancona ferries. Now the Dubrovnik-Mljet catamaran--that's another story.

Jeanne,

Many thanks for your reply. You made my day. I am interested primarily in seeing the Palace of Diocletian at Split which I have read about for decades and hope to see this summer. I take short boat trips (and suffer the inevitable consequences), but nine hours is a long time to be ill.

Again, thank you.

Best,
