This elegant building on Narodni Trg was once the City Hall of Split. For a number of years it housed the Ethnographic Museum. Built in the 15th century on the site of the former communal loggia, the ground floor is original. Notice the three-fold openings, consisting of pointed Gothic arches, held up in the center by columns, covered with late Gothic capitals. The two upper floors were rebuilt in the 19th century when two neo-Gothic windows were added. On the southern wall, notice the 14th-century emblem built in which symbolizes Diocletian's Palace and the Cathedral bell-tower. The first Government of the National Republic of Croatia was formed in this building on 14 April 1945. More from Croatia TravellerAbout Croatia Travel Questions
