Zagreb's Franjo Tudman Airport (ZAG) is at Pleso, 17km southeast of central Zagreb. There's only one terminal at Zagreb airport but a complete overhaul is in the works. Operated by the French company Aeroports de Paris, the airport will open a second terminal in March 2017. Passenger numbers have been climbing recently with more flights added to major European destinations.

Airport Facilities

Facilities are basic at Zagreb airport. This is definitely not a comfortable airport for passing time. Even though the airport resembles a furniture warehouse, there is a pleasant park right outside replete with benches, tall trees and picnic tables.

Ground Transport from the Airport

Take route 30 directly into downtown Zagreb
By taxi
A taxi from the airport to downtown Zagreb costs from 100 to 170 Kn, depending on the time of day (evenings, Sundays and holidays are more expensive). You have a choice between three taxi companies: Eko-Taxi, hybrid vehicles with a meter drop of 8.80Kn and 6 Kn for every kilometre thereafter; Radio Taksi Zagreb with a meter drop of 10 Kn and 6 Kn per kilometre; Cammeo with a meter drom of 6Kn and 6Kn per kilometre. Each of the above companies has put out a free app to make ordering their cabs easier. There's also Uber which will whisk you into town for 90Kn.

By bus to Zagreb
The airport bus leaves every half hour for the 25-minute trip to Zagreb bus station and it costs 30Kn.  From the bus station, take trams 2 or 6 to the train station, the Regent Esplanade , Arcotel Allegra, Sheraton, Palace and other hotels. From the train station, tram 6 goes to Trg Jelacica, Zagreb's central square. See a map of Zagreb's tram network and more about getting around Zagreb.

Jeanne's tip: To save money, I take the bus to the bus station and then a taxi to my hotel. Cheap and easy!

By bus to Rijeka
There's a daily bus from Zagreb airport to Rijeka that leaves at 3.30pm and returns from Rijeka at 5am. The price is 150Kn and the trip takes two hours.
