Daruvar Spa
Should you find yourself in Bjelovarsko-Bilogorska, right in central Croatia, you will likely be unperturbed by other visitors as it is probably the most untouristed region in all Croatia.
The administrative centre of the region is Bjelovar, connected by train to Zagreb and Osijek. It became a military town in 1756, characterised by wide, straight streets and stately, sober buildings. The baroque church of St Theresa is worth seeing but most people use the town as a base to explore the hunting and fishing opportunities in the surrounding region.
Nearby is Bilogora, a gentle mountain range covered by forests and vineyards and home to the region's game. There are various hunting lodges in rural outposts and a couple of hotels in Bjelovar. Plus, you can relax in the Daruvar Spa.
