The easiest way to get around Hvar Island is by car or scooter, no question about it. You may not need wheels every day of your stay but they come in handy to get off the beaten track. Several local companies will rent you a car or scooter to pick up in Hvar Town, Stari Grad or other location. Try:
Navigare: tel 021-718 721
Pelegrini: tel 021- 742 750
Lukarent: tel 021-741 440
The "new road" from Stari Grad to Hvar town is in good shape but the cross-island road to Sucuraj is run-down.
You can also visit Hvar Island by bus. The bus company is Cazmatrans (tel 021 765 904) which links Hvar Town, Stari Grad, Stari Grad ferry port, Jelsa, Sucuraj, Vrboska and other destinations. The Hvar bus schedule here may help you to plan your trip, but check for updates on your arrival. Note that buses do not meet all ferries; call in advance or take one of the waiting taxis. You can book Hvar buses online at getbybus.
